Joint opposition to oppose constitutional amendment

Joint opposition to oppose constitutional amendment Featured

The joint opposition has decided to oppose the constitutional amendment process.

It is of the view that a new constitution is to be introduced to annul the country’s unitary status, in the pretext of abolishing the executive presidency.

The joint opposition is expected to have a meeting next week at the parliamentary complex.

The government is due to launch a process for a new constitution on January 09.

A theoretician of the joint opposition Prof. Nalin de Silva says the proposed constitutional council is unlawful, and that the joint opposition should give leadership for a political struggle against it.
