‘Let’s revive humanity that remains buried’

The Geneva joint declaration describes 2016 as a year of fulfilling promises and by becoming a signatory on December 10, Sri Lanka’s government has expressed its readiness to recognize the UN convention on disappearances, says president of the families of missing persons Britto Fernando.

He told Sri Lanka Mirror that all the people who value democracy expect the government to realize its promises to reveal the truth, ensure justice, reparation and to prevent repetitions.

Members of missing persons may belong to Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim communities, but all of them want to know what had happened to their loved ones, he said.

In the name of kindness, their questions should be answered and the humanity that had been buried under mass graves be revived, Fernando asked.
