Today (26) marks the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, which spread despair and destruction across 14 countries around the Indian Ocean and left a death toll of more than 225,000.
It was the deadliest tsunami in recorded history.
A two-minute silence was held this morning to mark the tragedy with many religious and awareness programmes being held around the country throughout the day.
Over 35,000 Sri Lankans lost their lives to the tsunami.
