A young man had been dumped in the Kolonnawa area, following his abduction by a group that had come in a defender jeep owned by MP Hirunika Premachandra, said police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara.

The youth had been working at a clothes stall near the Dematagoda flyover, when six men stormed the place around 2.25 pm yesterday (21), assaulted him and forced him into their vehicle.

Investigating the incident, Dematagoda police found the vehicle number from CCTV footage.

The vehicle is registered to Premachandra’s name, and police had informed her about the abduction.

Around 8.30 pm on the same day, abductors dumped the man, who had gone to the Dematagoda police station.

Taken to Hirunika’s party office

He has told police that the assailant had taken him to Premachandra’s Kolonnawa party office and beaten him up, in the presence of the MP.

The youth had been warned to withdraw complaints with police, noting that being a lawyer, Premachandra new how to manipulate things.

He has said in the statement to the police that he has been having an affair for around six months with a 34-year-old woman, who is the wife of one of Premachandra’s key supporters.

The youth was admitted to Colombo national hospital later in the day.

Meanwhile, Premachandra has handed over the six suspects and the jeep to the CCD, which has recorded a statement from her.

She has said that she knew nothing about the incident, as she had been at a discussion with the president at the time.

Police said the suspects would be produced before courts tomorrow, with a request that they should appear for an identification parade.
