Change in Govt. Service : No appointments, just contracts? Featured

Measures are to be taken to make it necessary for state employees to sign contracts with the government, reports say.

It is said that such contracted employees will be given a list of duties. The institution head is also empowered not to extend the contract if he / she decides that the employee had not fulfilled his/her obligations, reports add.

The appointments of the government employees would be nullified once they sign these contracts, sources say.

Accordingly, in the future, those who join the state sector will only have a contracted job, not a permanent appointment.

It is said that Minister of Public Administration and Management Ranjith Madduma Bandara has said that signing of these contracts will commence from his ministry.

Speaking in parliament today (15), he hinted that government employees will be tasked with specific duties from next year onwards and that necessary measures will be taken with regard to the volume of government workers.

He also said that 5,500 graduates will be appointed as development officers within the next two months.
