Kidney disease ‘prevention’ in the hands of agro companies?

Kidney disease ‘prevention’ in the hands of agro companies? Featured

Various persons are working on behalf of agro companies to get the ban on glyphosate removed, says Chinthaka Rajapakse of the movement against toxics says.

The ban became effective with the issuance of gazette extraordinary no. 1918/22 of 11 June 2015.

Rajapakse said this chemical was the main reason for the kidney disease prevalent in several parts of the country.

According to a research finding, arsenic and heavy metal released through agrochemicals, together with underground water with high salinity, cause kidney disease.

The research was conducted by Dr. Channa Jayasumana of Rajarata University, Prof. Sarath Gunatilake of the California University and Priyantha Senanayake.

Appointed to make representations in this regard at a meeting slated for December 16 with the president are those paid by agro companies, charged Rajapakse.
