‘Sathhanda’ deputy editor Subhash Jayawardena is to be summoned to the CID to obtain a statement over the publication of an article attributed to Avant Garde chief retired Maj. Nissanka Senadhipathi, a CID official told Sri Lanka Mirror.

In that article, Senadhipathi has made remarks that tarnished the reputation of three ministers, one of them Rajitha Senaratne has complained to the IGP.

Yesterday, the CID questioned Senadhipathi for nearly three months and recorded a statement.

According to the CID official, a powerful minister had given seven to eight calls during the questioning and demanded that the Avant Garde chief be arrested.

When contacted, Jayawardena said the CID was yet to make any inquiries from him with regard to Senaratne’s complaint.

In his statement to the CID, Senadhipathi stressed that what had contained in the newspaper article regarding the three ministers was true, adding that he has audios and documents to prove so.

During the Rajapaksa regime, the editor and editorials of SLM and lankaxnews.com were arrested on defamation charges under clause 118 of the penal code, which had already been annulled through an amendment no. 12 of 2002.

At the time, Jayawardena was in the lankaxnews editorial and was among those arrested.
