The committee has noted that Sri Lanka has too many TV channels, which is the highest in the world per its population.

This has been seen as a big hurdle against digitalization local television.

The annual cost of maintaining a TV channel is around Rs. 30 million, the committee has noted.

However, of the 21 TV channels in Sri Lanka only four exceed the required capital, while others manage with difficulty.
