Pvt. sector trade unions call for their rights Featured

President of the Inter Company Employees' Union - Wasantha Samarasinghe says that trade unions have planned to surround the parliament premises as a mark of protest against the government's plans to clip the rights of private sector workers.

The collective calls for the promised Rs. 2,500 salary increase as well as to stop deploying women on night shifts, amending labour laws to the whims of employers and the attempt to 'plunder' the EPF and ETF.

Mr. Samarasinghe said that trade unions would come before the parliament premises on Dec. 19 if the government does not immediately scrap the measures they have taken with regard to the rights of private sector workers.
