Objections to be raised against Sumathipala, Sumith Featured

Nominations close tomorrow (03) for the election of office bearers to Sri Lanka Cricket.

Deputy speaker Thilanga Sumathipala is expected to handover nominations for the position of president, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

If he hands over nominations, the faction of former SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga is to raise objections.

Their objections will be based on 14 (a) of clause 41 of sports act no. 25, which bars anyone directly or indirectly involved in betting game.

That has been enforced through a gazette extraordinary of 15 January 2013 (given below is the clause in connection).

Also, the ICC ethics, under betting, gaming or gambling in clause 71 of its constitution, prevent anyone connected to gaming holding cricket positions.

Sumathipala is a former deputy president of SLC and chair of the Asian Cricket Council.

Objections are also to be raised against Sumith Perera of Baduraliya Sports Club, over alleged irregularities in his sports club.
