Speaking at a media briefing earlier today (24), the NTUC chairman - Wasantha Samarasinghe says that this year's budget has utterly deceived the public after making slight changes to several consumer products.
Noting that there is an attempt to violate the working community's rights, Samarasinghe said that it is planned to scrap the pension of state workers.
He added that estate workers, who are deemed as valuable only during election periods, have been neglected by this budget.
He further said that the budget has also dashed the public's dream of buying their very own vehicle.
Adding his voice, the NTUC Secretary - Mahinda Jayasinghe said that by saying that prices of gas, onions and potatoes are slash, this budget had created a farce.
Noting that the budget holds no relief for students, fishermen and the working class, he added that the only result was the public being burdened with tax.
The NTUC further said that they would pledge to defeat this proposed budget.
