Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has said that the proposed increase of the emission test fee will not apply to two wheelers and three wheelers.

The minister had made the clarification in Parliament today (23).

At the present, the emission test fee for a two wheeler, three-wheeler and a motor car is Rs. 410, Rs. 505 and Rs. 1100 respectively.

The emission test fee for a dual purpose vehicle, a bus and a lorry is Rs. 1190, Rs. 1100 and 1150 respectively.

Presenting the budget last week, the Finance Minister proposed to increase the fee to Rs. 5,000 from Jan. 2016.

At the present, a wave of protest against this move is sweeping across social media, calling motorists to fly a black flag on their vehicles. A picture depicting this call is shown below. Additional public outrage displayed on Facebook is also shown.
