Two former top officials of the Fisheries Corporation have been ordered to be removed from their present positions with immediate effect.

The presidential commission of inquiry to investigate and inquire into serious acts of fraud, corruption and abuse of power, state resources and privileges has given the order to the respective ministries.

The duo stands accused of misuing more than Rs. 15 million out of the funds allocated for the development of Negombo lagoon, to build a plaque at a propaganda rally to promote ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

They are presently a general manager at Fisheries Harbour Corporation and a working director at the Fertilizer Corporation.

Keeping them in the positions would be an encouragement to misuse state funds, PRECIFAC has stressed.

Legal action is to be initiated against former deputy minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, his son-in-law and three others in connection with this instance of misuse of state funds.
