CMs fussing over unimportant issues - Stalin Featured

There are far more pressing issues in the Education sector than mobile phones and bare midriffs, Secretary of Ceylon Teachers' Union - Joseph Stalin says.

MG 4194Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', Mr. Stalin said that the knowledge of newly appointed Chief ministers can be displayed through the recent statements made by the Chief ministers of Uva and Western Provinces.

Of late, the Western Province chief minister - Isura Devapriya had said a circular would be issued to ban female teachers from baring their midriffs while Uva Province chief minister - Chamara Sampath had called to ban teachers from using mobile phones during school times.

Mr. Stalin was commenting to 'Sri Lanka Mirror' on these suggestions.

"These chief ministers are attempting to go back to the stone age by bringing in such primitive concepts and laws. The Uva Chief minister is still living in the era of Alexander Graham Bell. While other countries are using new technology to ease the process of education, such politicians with primitive ideas are even nervous of a mobile phone," he said.

Noting that the suggestion of banning mobile phones and keeping them with the Principals during school times would make the head of the school a 'phone keeper', the CTU Secretary severely criticised the suggestion.

"We should regret that such persons are appointed as Chief ministers as they are not persons who will genuinely work for the country but will boast and create drama instead," he added
