Twenty three varieties of drugs and three varieties of surgical equipment supplied to hospitals within the first eight months of this year are below standards, alleges All Ceylon Nurses Union secretary Gamini Kumarasinghe.

The substandard surgical equipment includes syringes and catheters, he says.

He alleges the national drug regulatory act does not seem to be enforced properly, as the compulsory checks of imported drugs were not taking place.
