The office of the Elections Commissioner has already announced that nominations for the Presidential Election will be called on December 08, 2014 while the polls will be held on January 08, 2015.
Meanwhile, speaking at a special media briefing held in Colombo last evening (21), common candidate Maithripala Sirisena hoped that the Commissioner of Elections, whom he had known for a long time, would hold a fair and free election.
Although the Presidential polling date of January 08 has been deemed lucky for the President by his astrologers, it could be advantageous to the Bandaranaikes too, as the date also marks the birth anniversary of SLFP founder and late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, a senior government minister has told 'Sri Lanka Mirror'.
