The order came before the minister undertook a visit to Cuba.
Previously, on the instructions of the minister, the DG of agriculture had asked customs to strictly enforce the law against arecanut racketeers.
As a result, customs officer Baskar seized a consignment of arecanut imported without a license.
Later, it was released with the intervention of the acting director general of customs, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.
A detailed report, with documentary evidence, will follow.
