No-confidence motion against Marapana

No-confidence motion against Marapana Featured

The JVP is to move a no-confidence motion against law and order minister Thilak Marapana over his controversial remarks in parliament with regard to the Avant Garde investigations.

Several UNP ministers and MPs are reportedly going to support the move.

On November 04, Maranapa told the House that he saw nothing wrong in running floating armouries, but that the problem has arisen due to the failure to correctly understand the problem.

This has come under strong criticism by the UNP parliamentary group.

Marapana as well as justice minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa are under fire from several of their cabinet colleagues that they were trying to coverup the Avant Garde investigation.

Citizens’ Power wants his resignation

Citizens’ Power, an organization that had worked to bring the present regime to power, wants Marapana to resign from the cabinet as well as his MP position, before the image of the ‘good governance’ regime is tarnished further.

Marapana is not a politician suited for good governance, says CP conveners Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Gamini Viyangoda, Saman Ratnapriya, K.W. Janaranjana and Joseph Stalin in a statement.

Ranil is responsible

Meanwhile, DecentLanka 2015 says UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe should be held responsible for having brought persons like Marapana to parliament on the national list.

"There is no ethical or moral right for you and your government that was voted in with the promise of a "New Country in 60 Months" on a 05 point programme to include a person who accepts he was legal adviser to Chairman of Avant Garde, Nissanka Senadhipathi as an important minister in the cabinet of ministers, it says in a statement.
