The president appointed this commission to look into corruption and irregularities that had taken place in the five years ending on 05 January this year.
Since these investigations are progressing successfully, the commission will be given powers to probe similar incidents after January 08 too, say the sources.
Vigilant about 2 ministers
Meanwhile, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is keeping vigilant on ministers who are dealing with businessmen who had engaged in massive rackets during the previous regime.
The PM has received information that these racketeers are getting close to two cabinet ministers in order to resume their rackets, ‘Mawbima’ reports.
The racketeers have got the two ministers to agree to the ‘previously agreed upon mutual agreements’ to carry out the rackets, according to the information.
After getting to know about this, the PM has got irate with the two ministers in question and stressed that the present regime would not allow racketeers to achieve their objectives.
Any minister, challenging that, will be severely dealt with irrespective of position, the premier noted.
All projects under Kabir
Accordingly, he has instructed finance ministry officials not to allow the racketeers to get their objectives achieved through the next budget by way of using government politicians.
Also, ministers will be relieved of all bilateral agreement projects and a committee headed by state enterprise development minister Kabir Hashim will be empowered with their implementation.
