Highest allocation for defence in 2016 too Featured

The budget for 2016 too, has allocated the highest amount for the defence ministry, reports say.

The appropriation bill, presented by leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella, says the defence allocation is Rs. 306,650 million.

The total expenditure is Rs. 1,941,000 million, with the education ministry getting Rs. 185,970 m, health, indigenous medicine and the University Grants Commission getting Rs. 174,070 m each.

Parliament gets Rs. 2,190 m, and the leader of the opposition Rs. 80 m.

The national policy and economic affairs ministry, which is under prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, will receive Rs. 12,190 m, while he gets Rs. 480 m separately.
