Legal clearance for Wimal over PM's intervention Featured

Legal clearance has been facilitated to MP Wimal Weerawansa to go abroad over Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's intervention, Leader of the House - Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament today (23).

Kiriella was speaking after MP Dinesh Gunewardena questioned in parliament as to why Wimal Weerawansa was being questioned by the CID at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The Prime minister had said that he is unable to intervene if the MP is being detained on a court order. However, the matter will be looked into if he is being detained sans a court order, the Prime minister has added.

The Leader of the House further stated that Weerawansa had arrived at the airport with a passport that had been lost and later found after obtaining a new passport. Weerawansa had applied for a new passport after informing authorities to cancel his lost passport.
