He makes the request in a letter to prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The letter says,
I understand that the IPU had requested your Government to brief them of the relevant facts relating to the assassinations of four Members of Parliament namely Hon. Joseph Pararajasingam, Hon. N. Raviraj, Hon. T. Maheswaran and Hon. D.M. Dasanayake. There were three others who were also assassinated during this period and they were Hon. A. Thangathurai, Hon. Kingsley Rajanayagam and Hon. Lakshman Kathirgamar. Please send the relevant information relating to these three Members also to the Secretary General of the IPU.
People have already started asking as to what is happening to Mr. Thangathurai’s assassination. He was attending a school function as the Chief Guest in which many were killer, when he was representing the Trincomalee Electorate. At that time it was reported that the Police had information about a plot that was hatched in Colombo. It was also reported then that already five arrests had been made including a Gramasevaka and that the Police was looking for two others to be arrested in connection with this assassination.Along with Hon. Thangathurai’s , assassinations of Hon. Kingsley Rajanayagam and Hon. Lakshman Kathirgamar should be taken up simultaneously for investigation.
I wish to remind you that very heinous crimes had taken place during the War outside the War Zone, without any action taken on the offenders, mainly due to the reluctance of the witnesses to come forward and give evidence. The situation has now considerably changed. I am of the opinion that all the files temporarily closed should now be opened and action taken.
I personally feel that this is the best time to investigate the assassination of the former leader of the opposition Hon.A. Amirthalingam which is long over due. Please have a special Presidential commission to investigate this since a lot of people are involved.
The wives and children of these victims have still not recovered from the shock they suffered. Action taken on these crimes may give the victims’ families some relief.
