One of the eight Navy men arrested in connection with the killing of TNA MP Nadaraja Raviraj will be made a state witness, the attorney general has decided.

When the murder case was taken up today (20), the CID informed courts that the AG has instructed that the suspects be served with charges.

The court fixed November 03 as the date for the next hearing, at which a charge sheet be produced.

Raviraj was gunned down in front of the Army Hospital in Narahenpita in 2006.

The CID has arrested the gunman and the murder weapon, while determining the identities of a three wheeler driver who took the killer to the location and a motor cyclist who helped him to get away after the shooting.

The murder weapon had been given by the Army intelligence to former east chief minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, who had given it to a person by the name ‘Charan’, who handed it over to the gunman, a Navy man named Priyantha.

After the killing, Priyantha was taken to a state intelligence service safe-house by its constable Manamperi.

Both are presently in remand custody.
