When contacted, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said statements were to be recorded from several eyewitnesses and some others.
Police arrested the pistol-wielding bodyguard, a corporal of the Army, who had infiltrated president Sirisena’s security net at the rally.
An ASP of the PSD was taken into custody as well.
Later, both were released on bail.
Until then, investigations proceeded satisfactorily, but from then on, no progress has been reported.
The police spokesman said the advice of the attorney general would be sought after recording statements from the others.
