SLFA complains over Beddagana training centre

SLFA complains over Beddagana training centre Featured

The Sri Lanka Football Association has complained to president Maithripala Sirisena and prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe against a statement by the Kotte municipal council that it would takeover the national football training centre facility at Beddagana, Pitakotte.

The national team is presently practicing at this stadium in their preparations for the upcoming South Asian football tournament.

Kotte mayor Janaka Ranawaka claims the SLFA has breached the lease agreement for the four-acre stadium, and adds the land will be handed over to youths of the area after the takeover.

Illegal constructions have come up in the land, while the SLFA was yet to make payments as agreed, which include Rs. 2,592,000 as the lease for 31 years from 2002 and Rs. 10,000 monthly.

Media spokesman of the association Ranjith Rodrigo refutes the allegation and says payments have been made to account no. 01-07777-03-9 of the HNB Kollupitiya branch on 06.03.2002 and submits the receipts for paying the Rs. 10,000 monthly payment made until 2015.

Rodrigo says that the facility will be made available to Sri Jayewardenepura football league, which comprises children of the municipal area.

Given below are the SLFA’s letter to the president, prime minister and the receipt for the payments made:
