UN fund to further assist Lanka

The whole world is looking at the actions of the Sri Lankan president, says UN secretary general Ban ki Moon.

He says the UN fund for peace is ready to further assist Sri Lanka.

The UN chief and president Maithripala Sirisena held talks at the UN headquarters yesterday (26), says BBC Sinhala.

Moon said the Sri Lankan president could use his powers to realize sustainable development goals of the UN.

He welcomed the peaceful situation in Sri Lanka, and said it would be further strengthened through the implementation of the proposals submitted to the UNHRC.

Responding, president Sirisena said he would make maximum efforts to strengthen peace.

The two leaders discussed how to implement a political programme to build political reconciliation in the Sri Lankan society.

Prior to his meeting with the UN chief, president Sirisena had discussions with the leaders of India, Pakistan and Malta.
