A former powerful MP who was in charge of the secret deals of ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa has agreed to become a state witness, or accomplice, say police headquarters sources.

He has already confessed to police fraud detection chiefs about many serious instances of corruption and irregularities committed by the Rajapaksas.

Based on information given by him, police are to question Lalith Weeratunga, Gamini Senaratne, P.B. Jayasundara and several leading businessmen linked to the Rajapaksas.

Yesterday, the FCID recorded a statement from businessman Ishara Nanayakkara.
