A member of the Forum, Nimal Maharage has told BBC Sandeshaya that many of them had come forward to assist Wijeweera’s family after his killing in 1989, but they received no favourable response.
Most media are reporting that family members of Wijeweera, who had been in the care of the Navy, have been asked to vacate their facilities.
In this situation, the JVP has a big responsibility to assist the family, not merely because they are the wife and the children of their founding leader, but because they are in this plight due to the political activities of the party, said Maharage.
The government at the time stands accused over the killing of Wijeweera, and any government should take steps to ensure the well-being of his family, he said.
Worried by media reports
Meanwhile, at a media briefing today (22), JVP propaganda secretary Vijitha Herath said they were sorry that various quarters, including the opposition and the media, were trying to inconvenience the Wijeweera family.
Whatever opinion expressed by the Wijeweera widow, the JVP has done its part on behalf of the family, and the conscience of her and her children know that, he added.
