Deciding to function in the opposition from today (22), Mahinda Rajapaksa loyalist MPs in the SLFP have also decided to recognize TNA leader R. Sampanthan as leader of the opposition.
Explaining reasons for the decision, MP Prasanna Ranatunga said this would not be the opportunity to challenge Sampanthan, as some tried to send a wrong message to the international community.

Previously, SLFP MPs opposed to the supporting of a coalition government and several UPFA affiliate MPs had objected to Sampanthan’s appointment.
