Group of SLFP MPs allowed to sit in opposition Featured

United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Ranjith de Zoysa stated that the President Maithripala Sirisena gave his permission to a group including him to fulfill the function of the opposition within the parliament.

He stated that the President approved the particular action during a discussion held yesterday (15) regarding the role of the opposition within the parliament.

A special meeting was held last evening between the President Maithripala Sirisena and 25 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) parliamentarians who did not join the national government.

The discussion saw the participation of MPs such as Dullas Alahapperuma, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Rohitha Abeygunawardena.

Parliamentarian Kumara Welgama was also fully aware of the meeting which was also joined by several novice parliamentarians, Ranjith de Zoysa further stated.
