The unusual death of horses participating in horse races in Nuwaraeliya has been caused by the a banned substance given to the horses before the race, reliable sources reveal.

The sources further reveal that high dose of a medication used for conditions including Asthma such as Ventolin or similar medication has been injected to the horses and those who are involved in it has obtained assistance from an individual who has been banned from his profession for engaging in such activities in India.

The officials attached to the Sports Ministery who attempted to observe the horses following the complaints lodged with regard to the particular matter have not been allowed to conduct the investigation by the race organizers and as a result nearly 12 horses have faced untimely death during the past few years, sources reveal.
