MoU postponed to include JHU

MoU postponed to include JHU

Though all parties and organizations which agree upon fielding a common candidate for the upcoming presidential election were to sign a MoU tomorrow (Nov 17), it has been postponed upon the request of Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU).

JHU which has accepted the provision in the agreement has requested the 'National Movement for Just Society' to postpone the signing of the MoU until they quit the government.

The convener of National Movement for Just Society Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero, convener of 'Pivithuru Hetak' movement Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero, former President Chandrika Bandaranaika Kumaratunga, opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, former army chief Sarath Fonseka, former Chief Justice Sarath N Silva are to sign the MoU.

The relevant parties have decided to initiate all campaigns on common candidate following the signing of this agreement of principles.
