Requests by the CID to inspect the Giritale camp run by the Army intelligence and an order to the Army to provide it with intelligence details have been turned by the Homagama magistrate’s court.

The magistrate gave his order on September 07 after considering submissions by lawyers representing the Army.

The lawyers noted that permission to the CID would lead to revelation of intelligence information that will result in a serious threat to national security.

The magistrate ordered the CID to obtain an order from the attorney general.

The CID investigating the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda has revealed that he had been abducted and taken to the Giritale camp where he had been interrogated.

When contacted, Prageeth’s wife Sandya told Sri Lanka Mirror that the investigation was proceeding amidst various disruptions.

She alleged an attempt to cover up the case by citing national security.

Sandya said her comments in this regard have been distorted by the media.

The CID has arrested 10 Army intelligence men, including two officers and two ex-LTTE members Thavendran and Satya.

Meanwhile, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered authorities two days ago to provide a report within 10 dyas about the progress of investigations into the killing of MP Nadaraja Raviraj, journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga and rugger player Wasim Thajudeen and the Ekneligoda disappearance.
