Shadow LTTE rendered inactive

The CID’s having exceeded the limit in investigating and carrying out interrogations with regard to military intelligence has compromised all intelligence operations for national security, a senior military official has told ‘Divaina’.

This situation has created a sense of uncertainty among the military intelligence, he has said.

The country will face a severe danger due to a collapse of the intelligence network in view of heightened terrorism activities internationally, including that of the IS, according to him.

The CID has obtained detention orders for five Army intelligence officers who have been arrested in connection with the abduction of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

It has revealed that the Army has run a shadow LTTE group, which had carried out several covert operations.

Meanwhile, the CID has asked the media not to publicize these operations that will betray military intelligence personnel.

The Army had never said Ekneligoda was having links with the LTTE, but attempts were now being made to brand him a terrorist, says the CID.

Certain military intelligence officers are behind the publication in the media of details, including pictures, of covert operations carried out by the military intelligence during the war, the CID adds.
