Admits giving false evidence to save Gota Featured

General manager of Rakna Lanka security service attached to the defence ministry, retired Maj. Gen. Gamini Jayasundara has been ordered to show cause on September 17 as to why he should not be prosecuted for having given false evidence and thereby offending the presidential commission investigating serious acts of corruption and irregularities.

Jayasundara admitted while being cross-examined by state counsels at the commission hearing at the BMICH in Colombo today (04) that he gave false evidence.

He said he wanted to prevent former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, whom he loved and respected immensely, from getting into trouble.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa himself was summoned for the hearing by the five member committee, along with eight other officials of the former government.

He stands accused of several charges including the use of 550 Rakna Lanka security officers for campaigning at the presidential election, granting military owned weapons to Avant Garde security service free of charge and deploying civil defence force personnel for duty at Rakna Lanka security service.
