Prosecute AG for protecting KP – Fonseka

Prosecute AG for protecting KP – Fonseka Featured

Former army commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says the attorney general is having a questionable conduct over his intervention to protect persons involved in terrorism.

The AG should be taken before courts and a disciplinary inquiry held against him if he tries to protect Kumaran Padmanathan alias KP, Fonseka says.

Fonseka is responding to a submission made two days ago by the deputy solicitor general, on behalf of the AG, with regard to a case filed by the JVP in the court of appeal.

The submission said there was not enough evidence to prosecute KP, former international leader of the LTTE.

The AG said investigations into the allegations contained in the JVP petition were ongoing and a report would be submitted at the next hearing, due for October 28.

Citing the AG, the Army commander and the controller of immigration and emigration as respondents, the petitioner levels 193 charges against KP, including fundraising for terrorism, drug trafficking, assembling weapons and the killing of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The petition seeks a writ order to the IGP to arrest KP.
