The Army has decided to reveal to the public about ‘operation double edge’ carried out by its intelligence unit through a shadow LTTE group during the war period and persons who have had connected with it, says defence ministry sources.

This shadow group had been formed on the instructions of former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and is still in operation.

The revelation about this shadow group was made by Thavendran, who had been arrested in connection with the disappearance of lankaenews website journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

Thavendran, a former LTTE spy, has been an active member of ‘operation double edge’.

Five other Army intelligence officers have also been arrested on information provided by him.

Among them are two lieutenant colonels who played a key role in this operation, ‘Divaina’ reports.

The Army is now assisting the CID in its investigation into Ekneligoda’s disappearance and will make revelations about ‘operation double edge, the newspaper adds.
