A group of UNP MPs has asked prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to do away with the inactive commission.
Justice minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa says that once the constitutional council is in place, the 10 independent commissions, including the one on bribery, established as per the 19th amendment, would get new chairmen and members.
Steps to prosecute crooks and strengthen good governance will be taken, he says.
The 19th amendment was passed by parliament in May, but the independent commissions could not be set up due to the non-appointment of the constitutional council.
