Their interrogation will be based on the information given by Sumathipala Suresh Kumar alias Thavendran, who has been arrested by the CID.
CID investigations have revealed the Army intelligence had run a shadow LTTE group.
Statements will also be obtained from ex-Army commander Jagath Jayasuriya, Army intelligence officials including Maj. Gen. Kapila Hendawitharana, Maj. Gen. Amal Karunasekara, Maj. Gen. Janmika Liyanage and Brig. Wanniarachchi, say police headquarters sources.
Thavendran
Thavendran, his father a Sinhalese and the mother a Tamil, both of whom had died in military attacks, had joined the LTTE in 1985 at the age of 16 years.
He lost a leg due to an IPKF landmine, after which he became a member of the political wing of the outfit.
Around June 2009, he surrendered to the military and had engaged in several of its intelligence operations, about which he has revealed details, including a media organization and several other southern organizations and individuals with whom he has had connections.
The CID is to seek an order from courts today to detain and question four other suspects – Army intelligence’s Lt. Col. Kumara Ratnayake, Lt. Col. Siriwardena, Staff Sergeant Rajapakse and Corporal Jayalath.
Previously, Thavendran and another Tamil as well as a Sergeant Major of the Army were arrested in connection with Ekneligoda’s abduction.
