Speaking to the media in Colombo today (26), Gunawardena was responding to a question with regard to a statement by UNP chairman Malik Samarawickrama that an agreement has almost been reached to form a national government.
Gunawardena said only the UNP was making such comments, while the other side was yet to break its silence on the claim.
The people have not given a mandate to the UPFA to form a national government, but for a journey of its own, he said, adding that the SLFP has no right to be party to such an administration.
Meanwhile, SLFP general secretary Duminda Dissanayake says they could form a government with the support of a few UNP MPs.
