In a statement, she says she has come to know that several women’s and society groupings are planning to make such a request tomorrow (25).
She points out that the UNP is a disciplined party whose policy is not to appoint defeated candidates on the national list.
The ex-MP adds that the only legal step she can take in this regard, that is to request a recount of the votes, will be made with the permission of the party leader.
Irrespective of the outcome of a recount, she says she will continue to represent the UNP and its voters, and stresses that Ranil Wickremesinghe is striving and is committed for the upliftment of the nation.
