The new website 'rmv.gov.lk', attempts to prevent the irregularities which took place during the previous government in the process of buying, selling and distribution of paddy and to maintain transparency in the process of purchasing paddy from the farmers.
According to government decision 1kg of Samba and 1kg of Nadu were to be purchased directly from farmers for Rs 50 and Rs 45 respectively.
In this process it was essential for the farmers to provide the farmer's identity and the receipt for purchasing fertilizers to the Paddy Marketing Board.Following the feeding of such data to the website the farmers and store employees will be able to identify any irregularity that takes place at any paddy store in the island.
The ability to obtain information daily on the amount of paddy that has been bought in a season , the government expenditure in the process and the amount of paddy stored in each store will prevent the fraud and corruption from taking place.
The website was created following the instructions of the former minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera.
