While many former Ministers and parliamentarians faced defeat many new faces have entered the parliament.

There are 58 newcomers in the parliament and the voters of the Gampaha district have elected the most number of parliamentarians which amounts to 7.

48 receives over 1 lakh votes

There are 48 candidates who have received over 1 lakh of preferential votes in the recently concluded election.

Among them apart from Ranil Wickremesinghe and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa Prasanna Ranatunga (384,448) who contested under UPFA ticket from Gampaha and Wimal Weerawansa (313,801) from Colombo district were able to secure over 3 lakhs of preferential votes.

Thalatha tops preferential votes among women

Thalatha Athukorala was able to win the most number of preferential votes among the female candidates securing 145,828 preferential votes.

She also topped the preferential votes list of the Ratnapura district.

There were 556 female candidates contesting for the election and 12 were elected.

Athukorala has been placed among those who obtained over 1 lakh of preferential votes.

In the history of Ratnapura district she has also been identified as the female candidate who obtained the most number of preferential votes.
