10 cases of election violations since midnight Featured

Ten cases of election violations have been reported since campaigning for the General election ended on midnight yesterday (14), reports say.

Four persons who breached election laws have been arrested in Kandy and Norwood areas, reports add.

Meanwhile, the Complaints Unit of the Elections Secretariat says that they have received information of a meeting at the 'Sadaham Sevana' Temple of Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, which was held under the guise of a religious programme.

The Unit says that a team of officials has already been deployed to the Temple to look into the matter.

Campaigning activities for the Monday (August 17) General election concluded at midnight yesterday and the Elections Commissioner warned strict punishment for those guilty of violating election laws.

However, PAFFREL Director General - Rohana Hettiarachchi says that the number of election violations that had taken place so far during the post campaigning period was comparatively less than what it was in the previous years.
