Purdah will not interfere in voting

Purdah will not interfere in voting Featured

Additional Elections Commissioner M.M.Mohammed stated that the Muslim women wearing the purdah can prove their identity by showing their faces to a female officer at the polling station and caste their vote.

He made this comment in response to question raised by 'Sri Lanka Mirror' whether the individuals wearing clothes which covers the face will be allowed to vote.

He stated that the dress of Muslim women will not interfere in the voting process, provided that they show their faces to a female officer at the polling station.

It is necessary to ensure that it is the same individual in the national identity card that participate in voting and following the verification of identity there will be no disruption to the particular individual's voting, he added.
