Noting that it is certain that an anti-Rajapaksa regime will be formed after the parliamentary election, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says, therefore, people should focus on building a strong opposition.

Participating in BBC Sinhala Service’s facebook chat programme, he said just like during the pre-election period, a coalition government consisting of members of the two main parties would be formed.

No JVP in new govt.

He stressed that the JVP would not join the new government, saying that his party’s support is not needed to form a government.

When asked as to whether there would be a likelihood of Mahinda Rajapaksa gaining power due to voters favouring the JVP over the UNP, Dissanayake said he could guarantee that Rajapaksa would not gain power.

He went onto say that he felt sorry for the ex-president, adding that those who were around him were trying to use him to get elected to parliament.
