Ex-sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has gained improper earnings of Rs. 1.2 million per annum from a building constructed in a land obtained for his Mahindananda Aluthgamage Foundation at an annual rent of Rs. 69,000.

The Railway Department owned land in Nawalapitiya has been rented out to NAITA.

It is illegal for MPs to sign agreements with the state or any state institution.

Therefore, Aluthgamage has given an attorney license when renting out the building to NAITA at the Railway Department owned land.

However, he has disregarded paying the rent to the Department, with its deputy general manager having sent a reminder in March to Aluthgamage to make the payments.

Aluthgamage has obtained the 11.5 perch land, certified by railway surveyor H. Liyanagama on 11 November 2005, and signed the relevant agreement with the railways general manager.

Attorney license

However, when renting out the building constructed in the land in question, he has got one Mohamed Seith Mohamed Uvaiz of no. 05, Soysa Kele, Nawalapitiya involved by giving him an attorney license.

It was Aluthgamage who had relocated the NAITA-affiliate Ganganath Premawansa training centre in Nawalapitiya in a building with all facilities.

He has discussed with the NAITA chairman of renting out the first and second floors, with a 3,724 square feet building, and the attorney license holder Uvaiz has given his consent for it, Dinamina reports.
