Three persons connected to the abduction and questioning of Ekneligoda have been arrested.
They include rehabilitated LTTE political wing leader Suresh Kumar
and now retired Staff Sergeant Sudu Banda, who had served at the Giritale camp at the time.
These suspects have revealed vital information regarding the fate of the journalist.
Police allege the Army is not cooperating in the arrest of several other suspects, who have been exposed due to these revelations.
Suresh, his father a Sinhalese and the mother a Tamil, both of whom had died in military attacks, had joined the LTTE in 1985 at the age of 16 years.
He lost a leg due to an IPKF landmine, after which he became a member of the political wing of the outfit, and had been in charge of Trincomalee district during the war.
Following the end of the war, he surrendered to the military and was rehabilitated.
Giritale camp officers had questioned him about the contact no. of Ekneligoda in his telephone directory, and he has told them that he had got to know the journalist through Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena in Madhu during the period of the peace agreement.
The Army has told him to telephone Ekneligoda, and during their conversations, which the military had spied on, the journalist had strongly criticized the Army.
Later, on the order of commander of the camp Dhammika Kumara, corporal Priyantha had met Ekneligoda, claiming himself to be a brother of Suresh.
Their meeting had taken place at a land in Sigiriya owned by Ekneligoda.
Dhammika had told him that he and Suresh had deserted the Army, and sought his help for them to leave the country.
Promising to help, the journalist requested him to provide him with the required documents.
Claiming that he was bringing the documents, Priyantha had met him in Rajagiriya on 24 January 2010, and took him to the Giritale Army camp.
The CID says the nature of the questioning and the disappearance of the journalist will be revealed soon.
