The maintaining of the EPF under the purview of the Central Bank has created some issues in the recent past, says the bank’s governor Dr. Arjuna Mahendran, also noting that an investment of Rs. 5 billion made by EPF in Hyatt hotel complex in Colombo was high risk investment as it has been made out of money of private sector employees.
He was speaking during an interview with 'Sri Lanka Mirror'.

Dr. Mahendran also said, “The maintaining of the Employees Provident Fund has created some issues in the recent past. I would like to mention here about an investment of Rs. 5 billion made by EPF in Hyatt hotel complex in Colombo. This was high risk investment as it has been made out of money of private sector employees. Under this set up I took measures to set up a risk management department at the bank.”
