Arrangements made to exhume the body of Wasim Thajudeen are very much against the wishes of his family and his religious teachings, alleges UPFA Media Committee Chairman and former minister - Dilan Perera.

According to Islam faith, exhumation after a burial is an act of 'Haram', he said.

He was speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (07).

Accordingly, the exhuming of Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen's body too, is an act of 'Haram', he said, adding that an exhumation should be done over a complaint made by the late individual's relations and after holding a magistrate examination.

Noting that Thajudeen's relations have been repeatedly requesting not to exhume Thajudeen's remains, the former minister says that the family had barely been able to cope with the youth's loss and that there is no suspicion with regard to the death.

Noting that no evidence have raised doubts with regard to this death, Mr. Perera said that measures are being taken by a 'bankrupt UNP' to direct level such foulplay alleges towards the Rajapaksa family in a bid to conceal their defeat at the upcoming General election.

'We don't oppose'

However, brother of Wasim Thajudeen, - Mohomad Azwan Thajudeen had stated before media that they do not oppose the exhumation.

He had added that his family will back the police and CID investigations initiated over his brother's death.

The minister's statement in Sinhala is shown below.
